On New Year’s Day 2024, Netflix released the vegan documentary series, You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment. Based on an 8-week study conducted by Stanford University, this groundbreaking series tracked 22 sets of genetically identical twins on opposing (but healthy) diets: omnivore and vegan. The film features Wicked Kitchen co-founder Chad Sarno along with other luminaries in the healthy food world, including Miyoko Schinner, founder of Miyoko’s Creamery; Marion Nestle, the acclaimed NYU nutrition professor and author of several award-winning books; Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City; Cory Booker, U.S. Senator from New Jersey; and Daniel Humm, Executive Chef of New York’s Michelin 3-star vegan restaurant, Eleven Madison Park.
The twins in You Are What You Eat are fun to watch, and the movie has loads of eye-opening info about industrial agriculture, animal farming, nutrition, and fitness. It’s a fascinating study that produced some surprising results and suggests that a plant-based diet may lead to a longer life, a more vigorous sex life, and a healthier heart. Wicked Co-Founder Chad Sarno speaks passionately about the joys of eating craveable food as the basis for sticking with a plant-based diet. Amen, Chad! The entire 4-episode series is well worth the watch. Look for Chad in episode 4, the series finale!
